Your Food- A Cause for Concern
Food is the body's primary energy fuel. Without a proper fuel source, the body suffers. Not only is eating the right foods for you very important, but also where the food comes from and how it is prepared is equally important.
Unfortunately many commercially grown foods today lack several vital nutrients and are not suitable for human consumption. This is due largely to the addition of NPK fertilizers over the past 6 decades. NPK, which stands for Nitrogen, Phosphorous and Potassium, are 3 minerals which are essential for plant development. In fact, crop yields using NPK fertilizers produce abundant yields. The major problem though, is that NPK fertilizers lack the other essential minerals for plant growth such as: selenium, calcium, magnesium, cobalt, iron, copper, zinc as well as the trace minerals boron, iodine and molybdenum. NPK fertilizers don't produce healthy crops because they were never intended to be used for nutrition. They were originally produced for weapons of war by chemical companies. In addition to this widespread assault on food, NPK fertilizers deplete the soil of nutrients, making subsequent crops less and less nutritious.
But this is only the beginning of the story. Commercially grown produce is heavily contaminated with toxic pesticides, fungicides and insecticides. For thousands of years, soil enrichment techniques served as the primary method of warding off insects from crops. The high mineral and nutrient content of each plant served as a barrier against the invading species of insects. However after the advent of NPK fertilizers and the depletion of mineral content, plants were no longer able to ward off insects naturally. This lead to the development of commercial insecticide use. Today nearly 3 billion pounds of insecticides are sprayed on crops annually. This has contributed largely to the incidence of disease. Repeated studies have conclusively linked insecticide carcinogens to be primary, cancer causing agents. Due to ineffective and corrupt political agendas, these life threatening agents are still heavily used on American produce today.
Meat, Fish and Water
Commercially grown livestock are injected with high amounts of antibiotics. Studies have shown that half of the the country's antibiotic production is used on poultry and livestock! That is nearly 8 million pounds annually. Rampant antibiotic use contributes to heavily resistant strains of bacteria such as salmonella and campylobacter. Certain antibacterial drugs like sulfamethzine are known carcinogens and harmful to human health.
In addition to the injection of antibiotics, commercial cattle are fattened by using soy and corn, bringing their body weight up to 1200-1300 pounds prior to being slaughtered. This is 300-400 pounds heavier than the weight of a cow that is grass fed. Obviously the commercial farmer is looking for a higher beef yield. This alternative food source is not what cattle have been raised on for thousands of years. This type of feeding potentially fractures the health as well as the DNA structures of the animal, making the end product highly questionable.
It has been known for several decades that the contamination of the world's oceans and lakes has rendered many fish toxic. Large fish such as tuna and swordfish are heavily contaminated with mercury, toxic metals, PCB's, dioxins, petrochemicals and other carcinogenic contaminants. Ingestion of large fish is one of the most common sources of mercury toxicity. Coal burning factories are a major source of the release of mercury vapors into the atmosphere. The dumping of waste into the oceans has greatly contributed to the toxicity to our waters.
Mercury is a toxic metal that inhibits many critical bodily functions such as ATP (energy production), enzyme firing, organ and glandular function, brain and neuron functioning, and muscle functioning, just to name a few. Research shows that organically grown produce is much safer and much more nutrient dense than commercially grown foods. In addition, organically grown foods are not sprayed with carcinogenic insecticides, making them safe for human consumption.
All produce will begin to lose nutritional value the longer it takes to transport to the supermarket and the longer it sits on the shelf. Price's groundbreaking book: "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration", published in 1939. Why is customizing a nutrition program important? Let's say that you are extremely fatigued but don't know why. To combat this fatigue you start to drink more coffee for energy and eat more sugar containing foods. Because you have a very busy life you find that in order to meet the requirements of your work, more energy is needed. As you increase the intake of coffee, you begin to feel that you can perform more optimally, and the pastry for breakfast added more kick. By lunch time you start to feel like you need that boost again. So with your lunch you drink more coffee, and have soda. This provides you with quick fuel for the next several hours. By dinner time you are exhausted. Your body aches and your throat is very dry. You crash on the couch for several hours and watch television. You haven't the energy to do much of anything else.
By the end of the work week you decide you need to have a few drinks. After all alcohol creates a celebratory mood. And since your energy levels are quite low by themselves, you need something to cheer you up. After a few months or a few weeks on this pattern, you notice that your digestion isn't very good. You start having indigestion and heartburn. Not knowing why this is happening, you decide to pick up some antacids. And after every meal you take them. They seem to be working so you up your intake to ensure that they work. Several months go by and you start to get constipated followed by bouts of diarrhea. This type of pattern goes on all the time with people in our society. People eat and drink large amounts of sub-optimal foods and drugs, which by their nature erodes the body's immune, digestive and eliminatory systems. On top of it most people don't realize the harm they are doing to themselves. They know very little about their health, so therefore can't be responsible for it. So they turn to prescription drugs and doctors as the authority. I am not saying that I am a substitute for your doctor, but I am saying that YOU should be the sole authority in your own health. Not me, not your doctor, not anyone. You are the author of your own health and body.
